Policeman shot killed, another injured, in Batticaloa

Unidentified gunmen opened fire Monday around 8:00 p.m on two policemen in front of the Batticaloa Commercial Bank in Batticaloa town, killing one and injuring another.

The policeman shot and killed was identified as Wimal Dasanayake, 47, and the injured policeman as Bandara Tilaka.

The two policemen, attached to Polonnaruwa police, had come to Batticaloa to take part in the security related police duties in the Eastern Provincial Council election.
