Ash loses out to Katrina?

Aishwarya Rai is out and Katrina Kaif is in! Well, the former Miss World has opted out as the brand ambassador of the Nakshatra Diamonds. Ash has been endorsing the brand since 2004 and when time came for renewal of the contract, the lady imposed some strict conditions, which did not go too well with Nakshatra Diamonds. They promptly found a suitable replacement in Katrina Kaif.
Protest over Kuselan in Tamil Nadu

Rajinikanth had solved the controversy over Kuselan release in Karnataka by rationalizing his speech during the Hogennakkal issue. But some sections in Tamil Nadu are not very happy about it, as they consider that he had betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu by tendering an apology and covered it up as an explanation. The Dravidar Parayar Munnetra Kazhagam had insisted that Kuselan be banned in Tamil Nadu.
30 SLA killed, offensive thwarted - LTTE

Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam officials in Vanni told TamilNet that their defensive formations at Mallaavi thwarted Friday a three-pronged Sri Lanka Army (SLA) offensive, which was launched from Vavunikku'lam and Paalaiyadi targeting Mallaavi. At least 30 SLA soldiers were killed and more than 60 troopers sustained injuries in an intense fighting, according to the Tigers. An SLA troop carrier rushed to transport the casualties was seized by the Tigers.
Youth assaulted, then shot dead in Vavuniyaa

A youth was shot dead after being assaulted by unidentified persons at Pandaariku'lam in Vavuniya police division Wednesday night. His body was recovered Thursday morning close to the Maadasamy Temple in Pandaariku'lam village along the bund road with gun shot injuries and assault wounds.
On receipt of information the Vavuniyaa police rushed to the site and removed the body to the Vavuniyaa general hospital.
Indian Prime Minister to meet TNA leaders

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived at Katunayake International airport at 12:45 p.m, Friday to attend the 15th SAARC conference. He was received by Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake and given a red carpet welcome. Later he was escorted by the Indian special guard forces to the helipad and flown to Colombo in an Indian helicopter.
Tamil student abducted, in Kalmunai

Unidentified armed men arriving in a white van Wednesday around 10:00 p.m at the house of a sixteen-year-old student in Kalmunai police division in Ampaa’rai district, abducted him, according to the complaint made by his mother to Kalmunai police.
The abducted student is Baskaran Thusanthan alias Tharshan, a resident of Koayil Veethi, Kalmunai 3.
Cheran's derogatory statement irks the press

The audio release function of Raman Thediya Seethai turned into an unpleasant affair when director-turned-actor chose to set his records straight. Ironically, this also turned into a tiff between Cheran and the media persons present there. Cheran reportedly told the media people that the pet name he used for actress Padmapriya in the sets of
Pokkisham was not as reported in an English daily.
Bharathiraja incurs Kamal's wrath

Director Bharathiraja, in all probability, could find himself embroiled in another controversy. The director at a press meet held recently said that Tamil cinema is undergoing a thin phase as it is devoid of good stories and themes. The most recent example that he cited to substantiate his statement was Kamal Haasan's

Kuselan continues to make waves in USA as one more promotional event is being planned on August 2nd and 3rd by Pyramid Saimira USA and Narmadha Travels in association with Madras Groceries and Madras Café in Bay Area. August 3rd is International Friendship day for 2008 and ironically, Kuselan, the much awaited flick which is getting released worldwide on 31st July is a movie which emphasizes the greatness of friendship.
Rajini earns the wrath of Tamil cinema

Superstar Rajinikanth's apology statement to the Kannada Film Association on a Kannada channel has ruffled a few feathers of his colleagues in Tamil Cinema. Sathyaraj and Sarathkumar have angrily reacted to the apology statement. When his reactions were sought by the correspondent, Sathyaraj alleged Rajini of bringing disgrace to the entire Tamil community.
