![]() www.tamilstar.com Cine Interviews Asin, the beautiful and talented actress of the Tamil film industry has carved a niche for herself within a very short time. She has earned the reputation of being a perfectionist in the industry. And that’s the reason top actors wait to work with her. She arrives soon on the screen with her forthcoming film ‘Dasavatharam’. The interesting fact is that Kamal Hassan appears in 10 avatars in the film, and Asin completes her 10th film with this. Prior to the release of the film, we round up for an exclusive chat with Asin. It is a pleasure for me to work in the film. The shooting of the film will be forever close to my heart. I’ve done shooting for the maximum numbers of days for the film. It was a very enjoyable experience. The team was like one big family and I used to look forward to the shoots. Kamal sir, though a thespian mingled with us so well, he was always joking. We felt very comfortable on the sets. Ravikumar sir also made things easy and it was a learning experience working with him. Tell us about your role in the film. I’ve two roles to render in the film. One of Kothai in the 12th century. The other one is Andal, belonging to the present time. The characters are very different from what I’ve done so far. Both of them are traditional looking characters. Andal is very different from me in real life – she is weird and funny and there is lots of comedy involving her. My earlier roles had a tinge of me in everything. Gowthami has done my costumes and styling and she has done it very well. That’s true. I’ve done stunts and some of them were risky too. This was something that I was doing for the first time. I must admit that I got injured most of the time performing them. I had to carry a heavy bronze idol of the deity and run throughout the film and it was so heavy that I would get bruises all over. The stunt masters were from Hollywood and I got to learn a lot from them. The techniques were new and we had to put extra effort to get those scenes correct in front of camera. There was one Tsunami shots as well. It was a fun-filled experience. The accent that you have to use in the film is different. Did you dub in your own voice? Yes the voice is mine. But mouthing language and slang did not come easy. It was Kamal sir who helped me with the lines to get it correctly. What is the kind of relation you share with Kamal Hassan in the film? We are like chalk and cheese you know. Always fighting and can’t stand the sight of each other. Gradually we fall in love but very subtly. Nothing is over the top or dramatic. There was no such factor as such, I was given a complete narration before shooting the film. I’ve no scenes with her. I met her for the first time during the audio launch in Chennai. I would watch the film on its opening day itself. But I’ll be in Mumbai on June 13 have booked my ticket at PVR Juhu. I’ll watch the film along with my parents. After I get back to Chennai I’ll surely watch the film at Sathyam or Inox. © Copyright 1999 - 2003 by TamilStar.com |
